US online retailers have a lot to celebrate: Americans spent a record 126 billion US dollars during the 2018 holiday season, 16.5 percent more than last year’s total, according to a report by Adobe Analytics based on data from 80 percent of all online transactions from the top 100 US e-tailers.
Cyber Monday was the most lucrative day of the season, with shoppers spending a total of 7.9 billion US dollars, followed by Black Friday, when 6.2 billion US dollars were spent online, and Thanksgiving, with 3.7 billion dollars.
But offline retailers benefited from American consumers’ growing confidence as well. A report published by Mastercard in December estimated overall holiday sales to have risen 5.1 percent to over 850 billion US dollars. That’s a six-year high.
